Widowspeak Live at The Victoria Birmingham, UK

Widowspeak live at Birmingham's Victoria Pub, UK: Robert Earl Thomas and Molly Hamilton

Originally scheduled for Birmingham Institute's The Temple, this gig was moved at short notice to The Victoria pub. I managed to find my way there just in time to see openers Hoopla Blue, who had that rare combination of interesting but instantly catchy songs. I particularly liked the (at times) rave-esque sound of the lead guitar.

Widowspeak's sound was occasionally spooky, but warm and enveloping; it was easy to drift away and get lost in the music. Highlights included Gun Shy and Thick as Thieves, which reminds me of London's Still Corners.

Sorry about the lack of photos from the rest of the band, it was quite dark and only the main 2 members were lit.
