Distant Dreams (AKA Dance Keith, Dance)
by Alex Harford
The divots and the bumps in the road
Remind me of the old days driving home
Sitting in the back seat drifting asleep
Lights passing by in an everlasting street
Back then home seemed so far away
Nightfall, journey, drifting away
Now the world is within reach
Those distant dreams have disappeared
Sitting in the front seat drifting asleep
Lights passing by in an ever-closing street
Back then home seemed so far away
Nightfall, journey, drifting away
About this
"Distant Dreams" was a childhood memory of falling asleep in cars.
Years later, the words were put to a song for my band, The Cakes. One time we were rehearsing it, Keith, the owner of the rehearsal rooms, walked in and danced. The song was renamed in his honour.
Sandman Magazine also reviewed "Dance Keith, Dance" as "a greatly danceable floor filler."
